Festival - Gabès Cinéma Fen, 7th edition

Mbaye Diop, Colobane, 2020. Animated film made of 5,000 drawings produced with photographic transfer on paper. Ed.3/5. 8min 45sec.

Mbaye Diop’s film “Colobane” (2020) is part of the 7th edition of Gabès Cinéma Fen in Tunisia, this year curated by Hamedine Kane. The movie will be projected until May 1st at El Kazma / Containers Corniche in Gabès.

The film ‘Colobane’ refers to the market in Dakar's eponymous district. For Mbaye Diop, Colobane is not just a market, it's an area, a living entity in constant evolution. Using a precise graphic technique, Diop captures the essence of the place - the hustle and bustle of individuals, the energy, the liveliness of exchanges. Using acetone transfer, Mbaye Diop compiles hundreds of drawings made on the spot into an animated film, whose rhythm and visible lines bear witness to Colobane's frenetic pace.
